Getting Started

The International Student Services Office at Lamar University is happy to welcome all students interested in continuing their education inside the United States.  The information in this section will give potential applicants a better understanding of the application, visa, and arrival processes.  

Applying to Lamar – Provides detailed information regarding the application processes for students that are inside and/or outside the U.S., admission requirements, types of admission, financial requirements for SEVIS purposes, and placement exams. 

Lamar My Dream – Details information pertaining to acceptance letters, issuance of SEVIS Forms I-20 and/or Forms DS-2019, mailing options – how immigration forms may be received, and information for the SEVIS Fee Payment.  

Visa Interview – Information has been provided to offer guidance regarding making the consulate appointment, vaccinations records and requirements (Texas Senate Bill 1107), and the required health insurance.

Lamar En Route - Information has been provided to help the students understand the process and guiding them after they get the visa and how to plan their departure.

Port of Entry - Information is provided for new students pertaining to the documents which needs to be stamped and pickup facilities provided by Lamar University when they arrive at the USA Airport.

Health Insurance

All international students are required to have health and accident insurance for themselves and all dependent family members in the United States. Insurance must be purchased at the University during the registration period.
